This guide will explain how to prevent Voice from ringing on any of your devices, as well as setting a custom voice mail message to instruct callers on where you prefer to be reached.


First, we'll set up a voicemail message instructing your caller to contact you via an alternate number -

  1. Recording a new greeting on your phone
    1. Open your Google Voice app
    2. On the top left corner of your app, tap the "hamburger" stack menu and navigate to Settings.


    3. Under the "Voicemail" section, select "Voicemail Greeting"
    4. Press record a greeting
    5. Press "Record" (Small Microphone) 
      NOTE : This message should inform the caller you are no longer using Voice, and instead wish to be contacted at your preferred alternate number.
    6. When you are finished, tap "Stop" (Small Square)
    7. To play the recording, tap the "Play" button (Arrow)
      To replace the recording, tap "Redo" 
      To save your recording, tap "Save", you can enter a name for the greeting as well.

Next, we'll set voice to not ring to any devices - 

  1. Navigate to voice.google.com

  2. Select the "Settings" cogwheel at the top right of the webpage.




  3. Under the "Account" tab, scroll down to the "Calls" panel, from there locate "My Devices"

  4. Make sure all the listed devices' sliders are GREY, this will prevent Voice from ringing on these devices. NOTE: If you frequently remove and re-add your work profile, you may see numerous entries for the device you performed this on.



Next, we'll set up a voicemail message instructing your caller to contact you via an alternate number -

  1. Recording a new greeting on your phone

    2. On the top left corner of your app, tap the "hamburger" stack menu and navigate to Settings.


    3. Under the "Voicemail" section, select "Voicemail Greeting"
    4. Press record a greeting
    5. Press "Record" (Small Microphone) 
      NOTE : This message should inform the caller you are no longer using Voice, and instead wish to be contacted at your preferred alternate number.
    6. When you are finished, tap "Stop" (Small Square)
    7. To play the recording, tap the "Play" button (Arrow)

      To save your recording, tap "Save", you can enter a name for the greeting as well.



Setting Do not Disturb / Work Hours


Enabling Do Not Disturb in your Voice settings will automatically send incoming calls to voicemail. Disabling "Follow working hours" will automatically deny calls whether you're in your working hour period our outside of it.


1. After opening Voice, navigate to the "hamburger" stack button on the top left corner of the app. 



2. Scroll down until you see "Do Not Disturb", Tap the slider so it goes right and turns blue -



4. Click "Calendar" - Make sure both sliders are greyed out (SLIDE TO THE LEFT)



At this point, you have effectively opted out of Voice, as calls will no longer ring to any of your devices, and callers will be sent directly to your voicemail message.
